BIKE DIARY SEPT 30/23

Tested battery #11 tonight for total capacity.

31 km range

58.4 volts

13 Ah

612 Wh

Could not accelerate @ full throttle. Culprit: a low resistance battery. When one accelerates there is a voltage sag. If the voltage sags below 40 volts the BMS will trip the battery. So, even though I had a fully charged battery, one of the cells has such low resistance that it quickly discharged and sagged below 40 volts. That is over an 18 volt drop! Normally the drop would be about 8 - 10 volts.

So this battery, while having a good charge, can only be safely used when hooked up in parallel with another battery. If one does that you can safely accelerate without stalling yet still get access to the full charge.
